post-euro cocoonishness

February 21, 2006 – 11:08 pm

a brooding france trip being what it is, the return assimilation always comes with its glaring signs of denial: $75 in cheese purchases at the local market grocery store, a desperation lever shot of 17-day puro scuro leftovers, a stack of french chocolate and a color prinout of the day’s front page of le monde.

there is the slightly funk-mitigating realization that, with my stale pre-trip remainders, i managed to lever a desperation shot this morning that held vastly more character than anything i’d swilled in paris. for all the glut of culinary and coffee-related pleasures in paris, there seems to be a glaring market opening!

  2. You went to the wrong country for coffee. Did you try the WINE???

  3. indeed, there was an ample amount consumed … particularly the evening of our 15-cheese smackdown. it just amazes me that in a city so vast and aesthetically diverse and food-savvy and — indeed — even proud of its espresso, there isn’t anything really good. i knew this going in, obviously, but am even more impressed by the obvious market opening after the latest trip.

wanna open a joint venture on the seine? i’m convinced we’d be talking a smash hit, the french palate for burnt poo notwithstanding.

by the way … you should check out this new study that claims that cheese obscures the taste of wine, and that even wine experts can’t tell the difference between good and bad wines after they’ve eaten cheese.
