September 30, 2006 – 12:53 pmis wbc competitor hoffmann fomenting doubt about an alternative barista competition? this blog reports, you decide.
UPDATE: that alternative — the nordic barista cup — is being blogged here, here, here and here. ’bout time somebody live-blogged a large-caliber competition event. with the sporadic exception of coffeegeek, real-time information would seem a long-ignored-but-elementary way to leverage evangelistic powers on a broader audience. both gauperaa and this blog moaned about this way back in early 2005…
UPDATE: hoffmann amplifies — a great event, but not up to expectations. but don’t take it from this blog…

I have written most of what I think here:

Hope it is good reading…
thanks, james. while this is obviously a different kind of event, your feelings seem to mirror mine in many ways: i ALWAYS love a good competition, yet ALWAYS seem to walk away wishing for … something more.
thus, the recent brouhaha and subsequent suggestions….
“bout time someone live blogged a major event?”
Dude. Been done. Not doing it any longer, and haven’t done it this year or last, but previous USBCs and some regionals have indeed been “live blogged” (complete with entries right from the audience seating” on CG in the past. Go look through the history of “show reports” in the op/ed section on CoffeeGeek.
apologies, mark. the oversight is probably because, (a) i never noticed, (b) it’s been awhile, and (c) it wasn’t an every-event thing.
why’d you stop? just curious. seems to me there’s an audience for immediacy. maybe you found otherwise.
