my beans aren’t weighed, but i do know how much is exactly what i need to deposit in the grinder for a shot — just until the burr bolt is covered (18-gram dose). so i always dump the same amount in, it always grinds the same, for better or worse, and i always end up with nothing left in the burrs or doser.

I have said it before, and if my theory is correct, it holds true still. It is the Home Barista movement that drives many cutting edge aspects of the specialty coffee industry with such bits of wack engineering, make-shift problem sloving, and of course, the single origin espresso craze.

aaron: i wasn’t suggesting james might be stealing espresso spoons per se from east coast hotels … i was suggesting he could be stealing anything! those are some large, large, blazer pockets.

Tell me, what kind of hotels do you have to stay at where the the mere possibility of stealing an espresso spoon exists? Most of the places I’ve stayed–East Coast or otherwise–were doing well to have packets of preground, prefilterpacked swill that was less than two years off the roast.
