best regional finals ever. i can’t say how proud i am to see the level of quality exhibited in this year’s SERBC. i also can’t say how close our community has grown, and how great it was to see the SE finally gellin. i also, also can’t say how much better this year’s competition was than last year, and how many more people came to watch than previous years. it’s an honor to call this region home. SE Coffee Family represent!

Inno, I think mypressi has clearly won the battle . Coffee Geek agrees, Home Barista agrees, handpresso has no crema and is a joke. Might as well use a bike pump, I wonder why huffy didnt take them to court over using a bike pump for espresso LOL!

Believe me, I know all about the slow rise times! I use a flame slightly smaller than that so it doesn’t bubble too much during the brew. The 4cm rule is outrageous.
Lots of soot here with my denatured alcohol. Lots, I say, after one use.
Hope that sore throat clears up.

really? it’s large? I’ve found that if the flame gets much lower than that it takes forever to get the water to rise — even if i start with water just off the boil. also, i tend to be comfortable with a pretty fast rise, once the water starts going up (like what you see with a butane burner). if the flame is too low, it takes foreeeever to rise, and i’m not convinced the water is really hot enough for brewing at that point (no thermometer here).

sooo. that’s why i’m using the larger flame, i guess. i do get a little black soot on the bottom of the bowl (after a dozen uses or so), but it scrubs right off with an abrasive pad.

Although I have to say, the no-more-than-4cm the directions suggest is bogus.
Does that “alcool a bruler” leave black soot all over the bottom of your bowl?

the machine is an isomac tea — once about the best thing a home user could pine for, and now a middling chrome box that makes good spro, if you know what you’re doing. i’ve put an obscene numer of miles on it.

Poor tree. Why not keep them both? I used to have a coffee tree at my farm here in the Philippines and its nice to know you can keep a coffee tree indoors. Great post! By the way, what is the brand of your great looking espresso machine?

I think it’s unfair that the coffee machine gets so many coffee beans while the tree has not been able to produce any. You should tax the machine 50% of all beans ground and mulch them into the tree pot.
